Sr Quantitative Investment Research - Thought Leadership

Job Description
Support a global quantitative strategies team (USA, Hong Kong, London and Bangalore) in generating cutting-edge thought leadership
Major Duties
Write high quality thought leadership pieces including white papers, refereed professional publications (FAJ, JPM, JII), blogs, etc. on factor based investing in equities, fixed income and other asset classes
Participate in frequent webinars discussing research outcomes
Conduct applied signal research, backtesting and risk assessment of new investment strategies
Participate in twice-weekly meetings with larger research team
Attend client meetings with sales and client service partners and lead technical discussions
Experience and Education
5+ years of quantitative research in buy-side investment management
Ph.D. in finance, economics or related discipline or MS/MBA with considerable demonstrated success in publication
Desired Skills
Demonstrated ability to write/co-author thought leadership pieces for professional audiences. Evidence of academic publications strongly preferred
Ability to manage an aggressive research agenda under the guidance of the Director of Quantitative Strategies
Solid programming ability in SAS. Exposure to R, Matlab, Python or other languages desirable
Knowledge of SQL and Oracle databases
Familiarity with Factset and Bloomberg
Background in statistics and econometrics: cross-sectional and time series regression analysis, OLS violations, covariance matrix decomposition, volatility models, etc.
Fundamental knowledge of financial theory including CAPM and violations, APT, Fama-French factors, etc.
Ability to read, interpret and apply academic literature. This will require a basic knowledge of linear algebra, calculus and set theory
Strong communication skills: ability to converse comfortably with C-suite clients and prospects, clearly explain research and technical concepts to a non-technical audience, present Northern Trust products and investment platform

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
